Inclusion in Action! Join us for a hands-on, active day with Cheryl M. Jorgensen, Ph.D., an international expert on the inclusion of students with Down syndrome. Come prepared to “make and take” a variety of tools and strategies that you can put to use immediately to promote the membership, participation, social relationships, and learning of students with Down syndrome and other disabilities in general education classes. You will practice making tools such as an IEP matrix, a general education lesson participation plan, a plan to improve your students’ social belonging and relationships, grade-level adapted text, visual supports tied to the curriculum, and more.

Cheryl M. Jorgensen has worked for 34 years in the field of inclusive education for students with significant disabilities as a researcher, policy analyst, professional development and technical assistant provider, university faculty member, and a founder of the Center for Inclusive Education at the Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Jorgensen established and taught many courses in two graduate degree programs that she established: the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Inclusion Facilitator teacher certification program and the Autism Graduate Certificate program. In 2008 Dr. Jorgensen was awarded the National Down Syndrome Congress Educator Award for pioneering research on inclusive education for children with Down syndrome. Her fifth book about inclusive education was published by Paul H.Brookes, titled It’s More Than “Just Being In”: Creating Authentic Inclusion for Students with Complex Support Needs.
