the arc of the capital area arts and education program
Ages 18+ Years
We are very pleased to collaborate with The Arc of the Capital Area to offer our members an opportunity to participate in a wonderful fine arts and adult education program. The Arc of the Capital Area developed this program and created the studio and gallery to promote social inclusion and increase access to non-segregated activities for youth and adults with developmental disabilities. The Arts and Education program provides an opportunity for adults with disabilities to learn job skills, healthy living, independent skills and make a personal income in the arts.
This program gives people with disabilities the opportunity to be an artist in every sense of the word. Engaging volunteer artists from the community, the Arts and Education program provides art classes and adult education classes in a socially inclusive environment for youth and adults with developmental disabilities, ages 18 and older. The Fine Arts program is a place of warmth and creativity, where artists have the freedom to work at their own pace, learn new skills and come one step closer to realizing their dreams of independence. DSACT wants to give members the opportunity to learn new art skills and or develop an existing interest in the arts and continuing education. The sessions are five hours long (held Monday - Friday) and have been enthusiastically embraced by those who have participated over the years.
Classes must be arranged with the program director of Arts and Education program in advance. Individuals must complete an application and go through an admission process. Please contact the Arts and Education Director, Amber Nelson, at (512) 476-7044 ext. 236 or by email at email@example.com for information on classes and to complete an application.
